About this ebook

What are the differences between the practices of Mormonism and the Bible? Is the Jesus of the Mormon Church the Jesus of the Bible? In Mormonism Jesus is a man who became one of many gods. Biblical Christianity teaches Jesus was always God, and that there is only one God. Why is it most Mormons do not talk about these and other controversial differences? Further, Mormon teachings consider the Book of Mormon as equal to the Bible and accept several other books as inspired writings. What is the historical evidence to support these writings? What about accusations of borrowing from other writings or religious traditions? Why is it most Mormons do not talk about these and other controversial differences? This and much more are included in this study. You’ll find yourself more equipped in your own beliefs and be better prepared to discuss your faith with Mormons.

    Introduction

Welcome to the Questions Every Mormon Should Ask study guide! What are the differences between the practices of Mormon Church and the Bible’s teachings?

Is the Jesus of the Mormon Church the Jesus of the Bible? Gordon B. Hinckley, the former president of the Mormon Church, admitted that the Jesus Christ of the LDS Church really isn’t the Jesus Christ of biblical Christianity. How so?

In Mormonism Jesus is a man who became one of many gods. Biblical Christianity teaches Jesus was always God, and that there is only one God. Further, Mormon apostle George Cannon taught, We are brethren and sisters of Satan as well as of Jesus. It may be startling doctrine to many to say this; but Satan is our brother. Jesus is our brother (Mar. 11, 1894, Collected Discourses, vol. 4, p. 23).

In this study, we will help address these and other questions in three key sessions regarding questions every Mormon should ask. These are also extremely helpful for Christians interested in discussing differences between Mormon and Christian beliefs.

In our videos, we feature three prominent Mormons who have left the LDS Church and have become Christians. First is Sandra Tanner, the great-great granddaughter of the second Mormon prophet Brigham Young. She has invested her life to help Mormons investigating doubts about their faith.

This series also includes Dr. Lynn and Michael Wilder who were Mormons for 30 years. Lynn is a former tenured professor at Brigham Young University and has authored more than 50 scholarly publications. She left her teaching position in 2008 after becoming a Christian.

Michael Wilder, Lynn’s husband, served in a variety of leadership roles in the LDS Church, including being a member of the High Council and also serving in two Bishoprics. At the Chicago Temple he made decisions about who would be appraised as being Temple worthy to receive the Mormon endowments and allowed to be sealed in eternal marriage for this life and the life to come. He’ll offer valuable insights into some of the behind-the-scenes ceremonies that take place in the Mormon Temple.

This study will help you learn more about this movement and how you can better share your faith with those from a Mormon background. We look forward to how this study will help you both better understand your own Christian faith and how it will help you in sharing your faith with others. Through it, we hope you will be better able to contend for the faith (Jude 3) as well as to show Christ’s love to those
