Days Dreams - Diane L Douglas

    DAYS DREAMS

    narrated by Pen LaPin™

    Prologue

DAYS DREAMS (sometimes referred to as Cornice’s Journal) is a fictional story about several imaginary worlds in which little is real and yet most is jarringly recofnizable, I mean to say, recognizable. Though mistakes are made, success is even more often achieved as we —sometimes strangely familiar but also slightly different— characters traverse on a journey of convergence to finally fulfill of our wildest dreams. You are invited to join with us as we go perilously forward!!

    Chapter 1  Going Beyond Boundaries

FACE FORCED INTO THE knife edge of life, here she was again  being punished for saying what others thought should not be said! Her facial features were beginning to look like the corners she was forever up against —sharp and angry— all angles with no give! Small wonder that her sister taunted her with the name that thus held her captive to her worst side, while her little brother also held her in his mind and sometimes even tried in vain to call her by that dreaded nickname ‘Corner Cornice’.

    She would show them!

So she used her time well, while once again paying the penalty in the corner, thinking up more ways to get around the boundaries The Fundits and others were fond of so frequently imposing. Oh yes, Cornice knew they thought it was all done for her own good, to help her ‘fit in to the real world’ as they so very often reminded her. No one ever told her what that really meant so each time she was punished she felt even more justified in defining the ‘real world’ on her terms, not theirs!

Cornice focused her mind and pushed against the imposed envelope of what was considered possible to expand into unknown realms and imagine a world without corners and edges, a world where thought could flow freely like her sister Vela View’s vivid splashes of paint on canvases! Though, now that she thought about it, even her sister often complained long and loud that the canvases The Fundits brought for her were never quite big enough to convey the greatness Vela View wished to express through her amazing art.

Tears crept jaggedly down the sharply defined cheeks of Corner Cornice, when she felt those old hard edged boundaries closing in yet again on her, and her sister! Only their little brother Dream seemed able to slip beyond the limits of ‘real life’ for long stretches of time, through his seemingly endless dreaming.
