INTRODUCTION TO INSTAGRAM
Instagram was originally founded as Burbn in 2010. It was not the glamorous app that we have today. The founders, Mike Krieger, and Kevin Systrom developed an app that could help people during check-ins. It was somehow complicated and was only available for iPhone users.
The duo later noted that people were focusing on the photo sharing feature most. They decided to do away with the clutter like earning points and checking in. The new app was named Instagram even though it did not have most of the features we have today. The focus was on sharing mobile photography as soon as images were captured. They compared it to an instant telegram which explains the derivation of the word Instagram.
Kevin Systrom first developed Burbn before approaching his colleague to join him. An interesting thing to note is that Kevin never attended a professional programming school. He learned all the stuff on his own and developed Burbn prototype on HTML 5 and shared it with friends to test it out.
He approached potential investors at a party and they were mesmerized by his application. They agreed to invest in his idea which saw him quit formal employment from Apple
