    So where'd you grow up? Alicia asked as she leaned back in her seat and studied the pilot's face in the mirror above his head. The plain, gray, swiveling chair squeaked a little, but the bolts mounting it to the Turtle's deck held fast.

    Her smile was sweet and calm, but her eyes kept darting to the small window overlooking a landscape of fiery death. Each shift, slide, and crunch across the unforgiving landscape made her flinch. She tightened her seatbelt and listened to her companion’s belt ends tinkle together as the vehicle rumbled along.
