      She cleaned the wound with soap and water. It was long and disturbingly deep. Once she slipped and put pressure on Buddy’s ribs. He grunted. She said, Sorry.

      His voice had strain in it when he responded. No problem. I appreciate your efforts.

      She was surprised when his voice stayed serious. You’re worth saving.

      He’d purchased Lidocaine in the drug store. Lidocaine’s a mild anesthetic. He told her how much to put in the hypodermic needle and where to inject it. She finished and they waited a minute for it to take effect.

      He opened his arms and she drifted inside them. They hugged like little kids in a thunderstorm. Neither moved. He said, I like sweaty women.

      Good. Cause I am one.

      He glanced at his watch. Okay. I think we can do it now.

      He gave her some anti-biotic ointment to smear inside the wound. She threaded a curved needle and made small stitches along the wound. A piece of gauze and a length of tape, and they were done.

      He brought her into him again. Nora felt every inch of his body against hers. She was conscious of a log shaped male member between his legs, pressing against her tummy.

      She couldn’t keep his masculine smell from stoking the fires inside her hips. She began to feel full and heavy. His hairy chest rubbed against her, sending little lightning bolts of pleasure down her body. She said, You need to wash off, but you can’t get the wound wet. Take your shorts off and let me wash off the rest of you.

      He did it. She knew it was there, but she made herself look at his chest.

      She went into the kitchen and found a box with little plastic bags. She turned one of the bags inside out and had him hold it over the tape.

      She happened to look down at her nightgown. She might as well wear nothing at all. The water made her nightgown virtually transparent.

      He stood at the back of the shower. She held the wash cloth under the water coming from the shower and soaped it up. He washed everywhere he could reach. At one point, she had to hold the plastic bag over the bandage while he washed under that arm.

      She said, There’s a bruise spreading out from the wound. I think you might have cracked a rib.

      That’s a possibility. A doctor couldn’t do anything about that. I’ll just have to live with it for a while.

      She finished and rinsed him off. She made him stop before he left the shower. Would you like to watch me take a shower? She was happy to see him perk up. He must have been hurt too bad. I’d love that.

      Good. I’m really liking your attention. She stripped off the nightgown and turned slowly around in front of him. He looked where she wanted him to look. She showered and rinsed off. He didn’t move.

      She kissed him. Their naked bodies touched and molded together. She whispered, Would you feel rejected if I told you I want to sleep with you very much but not tonight. I want to get to know you first.

      No, I don’t mind. I’ll sleep on the sofa.

      She helped him out of the shower and dried his body. He held his arms out for her to dry. She felt very small and protected as she stood next to him. It was a rare feeling and delicious. She dried his back and turned him around.
