Let There Be Light:
A Nosy Nuns Mystery
Chapter One
The sisters at St. Malachi’s carried their dinner plates out onto the wrap-around porch of the convent. It was early June, and a pleasant breeze promised a comfortable evening. M.J. carried her plate and that of Sister Agatha, the eldest nun for whom navigating was a challenge. Agatha’s eyesight was fading, and she still insisted on wearing the long habit that threatened to trip her at every sweeping step she took.
Here you are, Agatha.
M.J. set the plate on the folding TV tray in front of the nun. I’ll get your iced tea and be right back.
M.J. opened the door to the kitchen and was nearly run over by Sister Stephanie, the youngest member of the household. Whoa, slow down. Is the house on fire?
Stephanie came to a sudden halt. Her face was flushed, and she gasped. I just got off the phone with Ariel Malone. She and her husband have offered us the use of their beach house in New Jersey for a week after school is out.
Are you serious?

Stephanie said.
Catherine shook her head. Not likely. Do you think just because school is out soon, our work ends?

M.J. said.
What’s that supposed to mean?
Catherine was the Principal of St. Malachi’s school and that—at least in her mind—made her the Superior. That parallel had long since been abandoned, except in Sister Catherine’s mind.
It means both you and Stephanie have worked hard all year. One week away won’t do any harm. Think of it—the sun, the ocean waves, the sand between your toes.
Catherine grimaced.
"Okay, so maybe not the sand. Besides, parishioners offered us the use of their house as a gift. It would be rude not to
