    Being in the men's group also has helped me realize that
    we rarely know all that's going on in other people's lives. Here
    were guys with whom I'd spent three years meeting with regularly,
    in a group that did a lot of sharing, and yet I wasn't aware
    of the major events that had shaped their lives. We don't always
    know who among us has received a difficult medical diagnosis,
    who has lost a close friend or is struggling with a hidden addiction.
    We simply need to show grace to all those we encounter.
    Within this men's group, in all our differences I've found one
    common theme—our life experiences have pushed us steadily toward
    God. Not by way of lightning bolts or burning bushes, not by
    easy or initially positive experiences, but we've each experienced
    nudges toward God that came through the right person at the
    right time and included circumstances that guided us on the right
    path, provided perspective, and offered glimpses of God's grace
    in our everyday lives. Through these and other experiences, from
    the insignificant to the dramatic, we began to see God. Through
    our common and ordinary lives, we discovered together that God's
    grace is present and freely available if we remain open.
