Description

Show #515   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 1st July 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.             Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   I’m loving their articles too, the latest being: Electrified Pickup Trucks Are Coming Whether The Market Wants Them Or Not.   Peter Osborn on Facebook: "Good mix of stories including Tesla and leaf not just his zoe which plays minor role. up to date with UK and international stories. almost every day which is incredible for one man show."   Luke on Facebook: "After listening to your podcast for the past year I finally did it. Just bought a used 14 i3. Your the first person I’m messaging about this because I’m probably going to made fun for the rest of my life for this but dam did it feel good to plug in. "   EVS TO MAKE 'ENGINE' NOISE One of the things I like most about my car is how quiet it is at low speeds. With the windows down, and at a low speed, I find it relaxing to be sitting in silence. But now new laws all around the world are adding fake noise on the grounds of safety. And I do understand this one. More than once I've been in a car park following people walking to their car down the middle of the road, and they've not been aware of my presence because it's an EV. Plus in car parks I have had people walk out in front of me because they're not expecting a car to be there - at least they're relying on their ears to hear a car. I imagine it happens in places like car parks because people aren't as vigilant as when crossing a three-lane road with cars driving at 60mph. Now today we are facing noiser EVs in Europe with a new law, primarily to help the visually impaired, although this will certainly help my close call situations. "EV models in the European Union require a noise-emitting device (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System, or AVAS) that kicks in whenever the vehicle is driving below 19km/h (12MPH). The system will theoretically prevent pedestrians and cyclists from being caught unawares by cars that would otherwise be near-silent." reports Engadget: "All new EVs, including those from existing lineups, will have to include noisemakers by 2021. Cars already on the streets are likely to get retrofits." However as a counter point, at speeds below 12mph a piece of research shows that petrol combustion cars are almost as quiet, and therefore EVs were being singled out and unfairly punished.   https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/30/eu-electric-car-noise-rule-takes-effect/   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_vehicle_warning_sounds   BENTLEY PREVIEWS ALL-ELECTRIC EXP 100 GT CONCEPT "Bentley is celebrating its centenary in 2019. And now the company has teased the centrepiece of its celebrations: a new concept car, called EXP 100 GT" says EVO magazine: "Details remain scarce before the concept’s official reveal on July 10, but the technology is expected to be borrowed from the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT – two premium EV models on a new platform called J1, which is mooted to be shared across into the Bentley model range. As such, expect the EXP 100 GT to be powered by multiple electric motors, driving all four wheels beneath a sleek four-seater body."   https://www.evo.co.uk/bentley/22834/bentley-previews-all-electric-exp-100-gt-concept   GERMANY EXTENDS THEIR EV SUBSIDIES Back in February on the podcast, I told you about a plan in Germany to extend their EV subsidies beyond June 2019, what they cal the Environmental Bonus. Then in May, we talked about the scheme being extended for BEVs and PEHVs until then end of 2020, to kick in immediately after the expiry of the old one yesterday. And right on schedule, these are Germans after all, ow we have news fr
