INVESTIGATION OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN QUERCETIN AND HUMAN SERUM ALBUMIN

Abstract:

The dietary flavonoid quercetin has a broad range of biological activities, including potent antitumor activity. Human Serum Albumin (H.S.A.) is the most abundant plasma protein, involved in binding of drug molecules. In this report, the interaction between quercetin and H.S.A. was studied using fluorescence spectroscopy and Molecular Docking techniques. Through Fluorescence Spectroscopy, it was found that fluorescence quenching of H.S.A. by quercetin takes place at 296K and pH 7.4. Molecular Docking study showed that quercetin binds to H.S.A. in sub-domain IIA near the vicinity of Trp214. The interaction between quercetin and Human Serum Albumin is stable and spontaneous in nature, having a free binding energy of -75 kCal.
