Mobile Incoming Call Indicator

1. This circuit can be used to escape from the nuisance of mobile phone rings when you are at home. 2. This circuit will give a visual indication if placed near a mobile phone even if the ringer is deactivated. 3. When a call is coming to the mobile phone, the inductor picks up these oscillations by induction and feds it to the base of transistor. 4. Since the Collector of Q1 is connected to the triggering pin of IC (NE555), the IC is triggered. 5. Blinking of LED is the output.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

Circuit operation
1. After picking up the oscillations, current flowing in an inductor changes creating a time varying magnetic field inside the coil. 2. Hence voltage is induced.

3. Transistor is biased such that it remains fully on if there is a signal at its base.
4. In the absence of signal, it gets completely off.

5. When the triggering voltage is slightly less than 1/3VCC, the lower comparator output goes high and resets the flip flop.

6. Whenever the threshold voltage exceeds 2/3VCC, the high output from the upper comparator will set the flip flop.
7. The collector of the transistor is connected to the triggering pin of 555timer which drives the timer. 8. The output voltage of the 555 timer is used to drive an ultra bright LED.

FUNCTIONAL BLOCK DIAGRAM OF 555TIMER

Operation in 555timer
The upper comparator has a threshold input and a control input. The control voltage is 2/3 VCC. Whenever the threshold voltage exceeds the control the high output from the comparator will set the flip-flop. When the trigger voltage is slightly less than 1/3 VCC the comparator output goes high and reset the flip-flop.

Schematic of a 555 in monostable mode

MONOSTABLE MODE
1. In the monostable mode, the 555 timer acts as a "one-shot" pulse generator. 2. The pulse begins when the 555 timer receives a signal at the trigger input that falls below a third of the voltage supply.

3. The output pulse ends when the voltage on the capacitor equals 2/3 of the supply voltage.
4. The main disadvantage is that the time span between the two triggering pulses must be greater than the RC time constant. t = RC ln (3) = 1.1 RC

ADVANTAGES
1. To get a visual display without being others disturbed in a silence zone areas such as hospitals, holy places, libraries, office works etc,. 2. Humiliation of sound coming from mobile phone can be prevented. 3. Easy to design the circuit. 4. Low cost. 5. Less Power Consumption.

6. Small size.

DISADVANTAGES
1. Total number of incoming calls cannot be stored.

2. A person can only know about the incoming call, if the person is nearer to or around this device.
