Mount Everest was named after Sir George Everest , a former Surveyor General of India. It was Andrew Waugh , the British Surveyor General of India who suggested it to be the highest peak of the world. The height of it was calculated accurately by Radhanath Sikdar ,an Bengal mathematician.

Early expeditions started from Tibet

From 1952, Nepal allowed climbers

Most climbers prefer southeast ridge because of its technical easiness.

Death Zone : Situated at over 8000 metres. Close to the summit. Lack of oxygen , low atmospheric pressure and low temperature makes it impossible to acclamatize. Khumbu Falls: Found at 5486 metres height. Contains a lot of crevasses which opens up without any notice.It has claimed 22 lives so far .Ice so often tumble down quickly Geneva Spur is rib of black rocks which is tricky to climb. Fixed rope is used to pass it. Yellow band is another dangerous obstacle containing rocksteps of marble,phylite & semischist
