MATHS PORTFOLIO 2

According to the question, I have a plot of land which is 150m long and 72m wide.

Maximum height (h) can be = 75% of 72 = 54m And minimum height (h) should be = 50% of 72 = 36m Therefore, 36m h 54m Now I will create a model for the curved roof structure when the height is 36m.

y = m (x 36)2 + 36 Putting x and y as 0 from point (0, 0)

0 = m (-36)2 + 36 m= Thus, y = (x 36)2 + 36

For x = 36 + a, b= a2 + 36

Volume of the cuboid = 2a * b * 150 Volume = 300 a b Volume = 300 a ( a2 + 36) Volume = 300 ( a3 + 36a) For volume to be maximum, first derivative for the above equation should be 0. =0 Volume = 300 ( a3 + 36a) Derivative = 300 ( a2 + 36) = 0

-a2 = -36 * 12 a = 12 3 Now Ill prove that a is maximum at 12 3 by proving that double derivative is negative. d2V/da2 = 300 ( a2 + 0) =-150a For a = 12 3, d2V/da2 < 0 Therefore Volume is maximum at a = 12 3
