What are Broken Bones?


Bones that have cracked or snapped completely. In severe cases, the bone is sticking out of the skin. Joints can be broken, but it is still called a broken bone.

Examples of Broken Bones


In your forearm and shin there are two bones that move your wrist and ankle. If one of them press the wrist too hard, one will snap and the other will slide out of place

Symptoms of Broken Bones


These include: A crack or a grinding noise during the injury. There's swelling, bruising and pain around that area. It is painful to touch, painful to move and painful to walk on. The injured part is deformed and there are lumps in the skin.

Systems or Organs Affected


Consequences depend on which bones are broken. For instance..
If you break your spine and spinal cord is damaged, you could be paralysed for life. If you break a rib, breathing will become more difficult and painful. If you break a finger it will not be serious but your writing may be impaired.

How are Bones Broken?


From a serious fall or just getting your bones in the wrong angle. Other ways are by getting that specific bone crushed or pulled apart.

The Different Types of Breaks


There are 6 different types of breaks.... 1. Complete Fracture: the bone has broken into two pieces 2. Greenstick Fracture: the bone only cracks on one side 3. Single Fracture: the bone is broken in one place

4. Comminuted Fracture: the bone is broken in more than one place e.g. your bone is crushed 5. Bowling Fracture: the bone bends not breaks (only happens to children) 6. Open Fracture: bones are sticking out of the skin

How to Prevent Breaking Bones


Wear the right gear when exercising or playing sport Wear a seatbelt when driving

Build up strong bones with good nutrition and exercise Keep your weight in a healthy range

How to Treat Broken Bones


The main cure is to put a cast on the area Casts are bandages soaked in plaster which will turn into a hard shell when dried The different types of casts are.... Plastic Fiberglass You can get waterproof casts

How Individuals are Unique


Different remedies include:
Chinese medicine such as acupuncture and herbology Bone setting in India where different bandaging help bones heal better
