PREAMBLE 1. The subject ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES having GBTU code no. ECE 052 is an elective subject for VIIIth semester final year civil engineering students. This subject deals with following main items.

(1) Details and design of diversion head works like weir and barrage constructed on perennial rivers for diversion of water to canal for irrigation purpose. (2) Details and design of canal regulation works like falls, head regulator, cross, regulator, canal escape, bed bars and cross drainage works like Aqueduct etc. (3) Investigations and Planning of Dams and Reservoirs, Details and design of dams, spillways etc. (4) Details about hydro electric power generation. 2. This is an advance subject which is related to Water Resources Engineering. Its knowledge is essential for design irrigation projects. 3. For proper study of the subject the knowledge of following is required. (1) Water Resources engineering (2) Hydrology (3) Geo Technical Engineering (4) Surveying (5) Engineering Geology. (6) Concrete Structures 4. The knowledge of this subjects is essential for job in Irrigation Department of state and Central water and power commission, Central ground water board, Command Areas authorities, River Basin commission National water resource council, and national water development Agency of central government. It also helps in getting jobs in private construction company like Hindustan construction co. which are engaged in construction of dams, weir, Barrage, Canal etc. 5. The recruitment to above departments is either through state and union public service commissions or though H.R. Deptt of private companies.

6. For study of above subject, lecture notes as per GBTU syllabus is being given on LMS site. IT is also available with the subject teacher given below-

R.S. JUREL Senior Faculaty/Astt Prof Civil Er. Deptt. R.No. 346A Mobile No. 9634747847 Students are being provided with question bank and assignments which will help in preparation of GBTU Exam as well as internal examinations. Whole syllabus will be covered in class by subject teacher for which students are advised to note down lecture and should 100% attendance as well as proper discipline in class. 7. The following projects can be taken up related to the subject. (1) Design and construction of check dams, vertical drop weir on rivers and perennial streams for irrigation and recharge of ground water. (2) Water management of a water shed. (3) Infiltration galleries for city water supply. (4) Roof Top rain water harvesting
