I think the primary authorities discussing my topic would consist of psychologists, doctors, and economic analysts.

Each of them answers my question a little bit different. Mostly, they agree that a positive outlook promotes a healthier lifestyle. However, the connection between physicality and disposition seems to be a bit more removed than I had originally thought. Thus, my revised question focuses on the effects of a positive outlook on mental health and the things mental health effects. Each authority generally agrees that viewing the glass as half full as opposed to half empty is a generally better way to live life. Psychologists take positive thinking as a staple of general well-being, and the idea makes several appearances in everything from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to twelve-step programs across the board. Doctors are interested mainly in the affect mentality has on physicality and how that relationship changes across time. The largest focus is on the testing and statistical analysis of research and development that pertains to the issue of physical effects of mental processes. However, I was surprised on the extensive research on the topic conducted by those in the business world and economic analysts. I never noticed the connection between positivity and business, but apparently its pretty extensive. Within that realm, there are advocates and critics of optimism. One such advocate is the author of The Secret, Rhonda Byrne, who stresses that unconditional positive regard fuels the fire to success in interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, either familiar or casual. Conversely, critic Barbara Ehrenreich seeks to place the blame on the economic crash of the 21st century on the optimism of bankers, accountants, stock brokers, and investors that invested into capitalism too enthusiastically. I imagine that, if these two authors were to converse, it would involve a lot of vulgar,

angry words from Barbara Ehrenreich toward Ms. Byrne, which I would not like to model in this forum.
