Abstract: The aim of this chapter is to elucidate the methodological meaning of the concept of Erinnerung in Hegels philosophy of history.

The first step provides the systematic features of Hegels concept of method and attempts to establish an analogy between the method of Logic and that of the philosophy of history within the framework of the system. The second step undertakes a careful analysis of the Introduction to the Lectures on the philosophy of history in order to detect the concrete articulation of the meaning of Erinnerung with respect to three fundamental moments of the exposition of world-history: the beginning, the advancement and the end of history. The last step raises the question of how to understand the totality which the Erinnerung is meant to express and argues for the conception of a historicity without historicism.
