A student who has successfully completed this qualification will be able to teach from Grade 4 to 9. (ii) These qualifications comprise two specialisation directions, namely Intermediate and Senior Phase. (iii) Teaching Practice is a compulsory component in this programme and must be taken according to specific criteria. Foreign students or students intending studying outside South Africa must do Teaching Practice in South African schools so that they are visited, observed and supported by UNISA academic / teaching staff. Declaration Form, (DSAR05) is available from UNISA Admissions and Registrations to be completed for this purpose. If the Declaration Form is not completed and signed, the student may not be admitted and/ or registered. as part of this qualification students are compelled to have TWO official languages. (Postgraduate students who do not fulfil the necessary requirements are allowed to register for the language modules for non-degree purposes NDP) concurrently with or before registering for the PGCE. Rules
A student who has successfully completed this qualification will be able to teach from birth to grade 3. Please avail yourself prior to registration of the practical teaching requirements. South African Students intending to study outside South Africa and applicants from overseas must do Teaching Practice in South African schools so that they are visited, observed and supported by the assigned UNISA Academic/ Teaching staff. Declaration Form, (DSAR05) is available from UNISA Admissions and Registrations to be completed for this purpose. If the Declaration Form is not completed and signed, the student may not be admitted and / or registered. Students, who intend to seek employment with the Department of Education or one of the Provincial Education Departments in the Republic of South Africa, must have passed two of the official languages, with at least 40% in at least one of them as First Language Higher Grade. (An immigrant who has not satisfied these requirements, will be required to do so during his/her period of training for the degree) and have obtained at least 40% on Higher Grade in another subject (languages excluded). the degree consists of 40 (forty) modules. the degree comprises FOUR major components: 3 approved School subjects (it includes the two official languages) 10 modules in Educational Themes (major subject) 15 modules in Professional Studies (major subject) Additional modules to complete the required number of 40 modules SCHOOL SUBJECTS These are academic subjects that have to be taken and relates to subjects being offered in schools. Students are advised to take THREE of the approved school subjects for this phase at a 2-2-1 (second year, second year, first year) level or a 3-1-1 (third year, first year, first year) level. This should include the two official languages. the number of modules is determined by the choice of subjects. Should the three school subjects comprise less than 15 modules, the remaining modules must be chosen as additional modules. the following school subjects are offered at UNISA and can be found in my Modules brochure under the relevant subject name. Financial accounting, Biology, Botany, Business Management, Chemistry, Economics, Zoology, Physics, Psychology, Religion studies, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Computer science , languages etc. OFFICIAL LANGUAGES as part of the BEd degree students are compelled to take TWO of the following official languages. English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, Sepedi, Sign language, Sesotho, siSwati, Xitsonga, Setswana, Tshivenda, isiXhosa. One of the languages may be taken at a proficiency level (Practical or Beginners level). See the relevant languages in the my Modules brochure that may be taken. Sign Language is intended for deaf students or students with South African Sign Language as first language who wish to prepare themselves to educate deaf learners. Sign Language is not offered at UNISA. Students may take it at any other University and after completion apply for recognition. A student who has successfully passed the Degree of Bachelor Education BEd (Intermediate and Senior Phase) will be able to teach Grades 4 to 9). Please avail yourself prior to registration of the practical teaching requirements. South African students intending to study outside South Africa and applicants from overseas must do Teaching Practice in South African schools so that they are visited, observed and supported by the assigned UNISA Academic/ Teaching staff. Declaration Form ,(DSAR05) is available from UNISA Admissions and Registrations to be completed for this purpose. If the Declaration Form is not completed and signed, the student may not be admitted and /or registered. the degree consists of 40 (forty) modules and comprises FOUR major components: 3 approved School subjects (it includes the two official languages) 10 modules in Educational Themes (major subject) 15 modules in Professional Studies (major subject) Additional modules to complete the required number of 40 modules SCHOOL SUBJECTS These are academic subjects that have to be taken and relates to subjects being offered in schools. Students are advised to take THREE of the approved school subjects for this phase at a 2-2-1 (second year, second year, first year) level or a 3-1-1 (third year, first year, first year) level. This should include the two official languages. the number of modules is determined by the choice of subjects. Should the three school subjects comprise less than 15 modules, the remaining modules must be chosen as additional modules. the following school subjects are offered at UNISA and can be found in my Modules brochure under the relevant subject name. Financial accounting, Biology, Botany, Business Management, Chemistry, Economics, Zoology, Physics, Psychology, Religion studies, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Computer science , Official languages etc. OFFICIAL LANGUAGES as part of the BEd degree students are compelled to take TWO of the following official languages. English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, Sepedi, Sign language, Sesotho, siSwati, Xitsonga, Setswana, Tshivenda, isiXhosa. One of the languages may be taken at a proficiency level (Practical or Beginners level). See the relevant languages in the my Modules brochure that may be taken. Sign Language is intended for deaf students or students with South African Sign Language as first language who wish to prepare themselves to educate deaf learners. Sign Language is not offered at UNISA. Students may take it at any other University and after completion apply for recognition. Foreign students (with a foreign passport): the requirement of a second language does not apply and can be replaced with a language from the country of origin of the student or an approved school subject.

A student who has successfully completed this qualification will be able to teach Grades 10 to 12. Please avail yourself prior to registration of the practical teacing requirements. South African Students intending to study outside South Africa and applicants from overseas must do Teaching Practice in South African schools so that they are visited, observed and supported by assigned UNISA Academic/ Teaching staff. Declaration Form, (DSAR05) is available from UNISA Admissions and Registrations to be completed for this purpose. If the Declaration Form is not completed and signed, the student may not be admitted and / or registered. the degree consists of 40 (forty) modules and comprises FOUR major components: 3 approved School subjects (16 Modules) 14 modules in Educational Themes (major subject) 10 modules in Professional Studies (major subject) Additional modules to complete the required number of 40 modules Students are advised to complete the curriculum as follows: 1. School subjects are taken first; 2. Subject Didactics and Learning Area Didactics are taken after completion of the related school subjects up to second-year level . Educational subjects are fitted in throughout the curriculum. TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS Students who have not passed HBEDTRD(Theory and research in education) prior to 2011 but have already passed both specialisation modules have to enroll for HBEDTRD(Theory and research in education) and either HBEDABH(Addressing barriers to learning) or HBEDWSL(Whole school development through environmental education) to complete the degree. Only a limited number of students can be accepted each year. Students must have the opportunity in their work situation to do the practical work. A student must attend practical training for five days in Pretoria during the year of specialisation, i.e. the year in which modules HBEDBLV & HBEDETE are offered. Students must apply before 15 November of their first year of study for selection on the prescribed form which is obtainable from the Registrar. At the final selection, preference will be given to students who have already passed modules HBEDTRD, HBEDTL6 and HBEDECS. A student who is not in possession of one of the diplomas mentioned under admission requirements above, but who holds another suitable qualification and/or has relevant experience may, with the approval of the Board of the College, be admitted.

Only a limited number of students will be admitted annually to the studies for the degree. Students who are provisionally selected must appear before a selection committee in Pretoria. Practical training, which is compulsory, is offered in Pretoria. It takes place over 5 weeks, from Monday till Saturday and, in addition, longer sessions of up to ten days each will be conducted during March, May, August and September. Education III is not recognised by the Professional Board for Psychology for purposes of registration as a psychometrist and consequently a student who was admitted to the studies for the degree of Hons BEd (Specialisation in School Guidance and Counselling) by virtue of, inter alia, Education III, may not, on completion of this degree, register for the degree of Master of Education with Specialisation in Guidance and Counselling. Students must apply for selection before 31 July of the year preceding the year in which they wish to register.
