ABSTRACT

Based on a pre-survey conducted in the PAUD Melati in April 2012, there are 42 toddlers registered in that early childhood education center. It is indicated that the parents of those toddlers apply the so-called permissive type of raising the kids. Besides, some of the toddlers suffer from the temper tantrum; they often scream, cry, swear, and become fussy when entering the classroom. This study is aimed at identifying the correlation between the parents nurturing type and the temper tantrum of the toddlers at PAUD Melati in Tojong-ojong in Selebung Village of Batukliang Sudistrict in Central Lombok. From the population of all toddlers at PAUD Melati, 20 toddlers are taken purposively as the samples of the study. The instrument used is the questionnaire aiming at identifying the parents nurturing type and the frequency of the occurrence of temper tantrum. Data is analyzed using the Regression Test with the significance level of 0,05. The result of the study implies that parents nurturing type is correlated with the temper tantrum the toddlers suffer from. After the data analysis using SPSS Program, it is found that the F-Cal is p < 0,05 (p=0,001) which means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It is concluded that parents nurturing type is the dominant factor causing the toddlers temper tantrum. More permissive the nurturing type is, the more uncontrolled the temper tantrum is likely to happen. More democratic the nurturing type is, the more controllable the temper tantrum is likely to happen. Finally, more authoritarian the nurturing type is, the more uncontrollable the temper tantrum is likely to happen.
