Sending email: Please indicate Math 3100 in the subject line. Should you notice errors in lectures and assignments, please let me know as soon as possible. Corrections will be posted on the course website. Oce hours: Mon 12 pm; Thur 1112 am or by appointment. Textbooks: I will not follow a single textbook. The material of the course will be compiled of several sources. In particular, I will be picking from the books by R.C. Robinson An introduction to dynamical systems (Pearson 2004), M.W. Hirsch and S. Smale Dierential Equations, Dynamical Systems, and Linear Algebra (Acad.Press, 1974), E.R. Scheinerman An invitation to dynamical systems (Prentice Hall, 1996), H.S. Strogatz Nonlinear Dynamics And Chaos (Westview Press 2001). Other references will be provided when needed. Evaluation Assignments: 25%, Midterm Test: 15%, Final Exam: 60%. Please note: This is a regular mathematics course, not a project based course. Homework assignments will require a combination of analytical and numerical work, with the latter component increasing towards the end of the course. Date of Midterm Test (tentative) February 11 (Thursday). Relatively early in the semester, but this will allow us to better concentrate on interesting examples in the second half of the course.
