Being physically fit is an important aspect of obtaining optimal health. Becoming knowledgeable about what it means to be physically fit may greatly increase your ability to improve your health and wellness. In this worksheet, you identify the five components of health related fitness. Completing this assignment is a step towards gaining the knowledge needed to better manage your physical fitness. Five Components of Health Related Fitness Table Complete the table below. The first row has been filled in for you as an example. Components of Physical Fitness Cardiorespiratory Fitness Description Being able to exercise at a moderate to high intensity for a long period of time The amount of force a muscle or group of muscles is capable of exerting. How to Incorporate in Your Life Walk 2 miles at a brisk pace every day. Lift free weights two to three days per week. Benefit(s) Reduced the risk of heart disease, hypertension, and high cholesterol. Increase in strength and reduction in risk for injury of muscle pull or strain.

Muscular Strength

Muscular Endurance

The ability of muscle to exert force without fatiguing.

Increase the number of repetitions and the amount of weight used. Perform stretching exercises every day for twenty to thirty minutes and prior to exercising.

Ability to perform activities longer, reduced fatigue, and fewer injuries to muscles. Reduced joint pain, and deterioration, reduced lower back problems, and muscle, or tendon injuries. Improved weight control, bone mass and increased immunity to illness.

Flexibility

The measure of the range of motion, or the amount of movement possible, at a particular joint.

Body Composition

The relative proportion of lean tissue (muscle, bone, water, organs) and fat tissue in the body.

Perform aerobic exercises every day for twenty to thirty minutes.
