Proportions : two equal ratios form a proportion o I am planning a vacation to China. The exchange rate is 1 dollar equals 6.2 Yuan. If I need to have 12400 Yuan for my trip, how many dollars do I need to convert?

o A recipe calls for 2 cups of flour and 4 eggs. If only 3 eggs are used, then how many cups of flour should be used? o Sadie is 3 feet tall and at 6 p.m. in Sunnytown, Saide casts an 8-foot shadow. Nick is 5 feet tall, how long is his shadow at 6 p.m. in Sunnytown? o My map of upstate New York has the scale inch = 5 miles. If Buffalo and Albany are 13 inches apart on my map, then how far apart are the cities?

o Sylvia is an architect designing a new building. The building will be 30 feet tall, and the window will each be 8 feet high. Sylvia draws blueprints for the building on which the building is 8 inches tall. How tall are the windows on Sylvias blueprints?

o My wallet-size photo of my pet cat Snookums is 3cm wide and 5cm tall. If I want a larger photo to put on my wall, and I want the area of the photo to be 135 square centimeters, then how many centimeters wide should the larger photo be?

Conversions : Think of conversion factors as fractions that are equal to 1 We multiply conversion factors together to cancel units. o How many yards equals 90 inches? o A tablespoon is half of a fluid ounce, a cup is 8 fluid ounces, and a gallon is 16 cups. How many tablespoons are in a gallon? o Will took $1,000 on his trip to Japan, where the exchange rate between dollars and Yen is $1 = 90, he spent 45,000 on his hotel room and 11,250 on meals and souvenirs. How much money in dollars did he have remaining at the end of his trip? o The density of water is approximately 8.3 pounds per gallon, and there are 4 quarts in a gallon. How much does 7 quarts of water weigh? o An inch is approximately 2.5 cm. Approximately how many square cm are in a square inch?
