ABSTRACT

The development of Robot Vision technology in Indonesia is currently insignificant. Most robots developed here navigate themselves by sensing obstructing walls. Using sensing cameras the robots gain many advantages, among others is their ability to detect certain objects, either by their shapes and colors, as if they can see and distinguish objects. So far robot contest organized nation namely the KRCI (Intelligent Robot Contest) and KRI (Indonesian Robot Contest) did not require sensing cameras for object recognition and navigation. One type of sensing camera which is affordable and practical to be employed is C3088. However, to fully utilize it a fast operating processor is needed. This camera produces 352x288 pixel color as well as high precision grayscale images. It has been used in robots to recognize object based on the shapes and colors. A color following robot has been built, using the C3088 camera module in our eksperiment. We have proven that this robot has no difficulties in following a moving colored object. We plan to participate in the next KRCI in the Battle Division, which requires the robot to follow or to chase a moving tennis or pingpong ball. The fast response of our robot to chase the running colored object is enough to join the battle in KRCI, without resorting to the standard mapping algorithm to avoid the unnecessary high probability or failure.
