ASSIGNMENT-I SUBJECT- POWER PLANT ENGINEERING(EME 801)
1. What are the basic resources in india for power generation? List out their capacities in different regions. 2. Derive an expression for the Rankins efficiency. 3. What are the factor are considered for the selection of power plant units. 4. Define connected load, maximum demand ,demand factor and load factor.Explain the importance of each in a power plant operation. 5. Define load duration curve.Explain the method of its construction and states its advantages in the design of power plant. 6. What is meant by power plant economics? What are the fixed and operating costs? 7. Discuss the method of determining the depreciation of electric power plant. 8. The loads on a power plant with respect to time for 24 hrs are listed below:

Draw the load curve and find the load factor of power station. If the load above 60 MW are taken by a stand-by unit of 20 MW capacity, find the load factor of the standby unit. 9. A power station has an installed capacity of 20 MW.The cost of the plant is Rs.12000/kW.The fixed charges are 13% of the investment. At 100% laod factor ,the variable costs of the station per year are 1.5 times the fixed costs.Assuming thre is no reserve capacity and variable costs areproportional to the energy production, find the cost of generation at 100%,80%,60%,40%,and 20% laod factor.
