1. GROSS AND PAYLOAD WEIGHT ESTIMATION 1.

1 DATA COLLECTION A detailed study of mini unmanned aerial vehicles used for surveillance was carried out and the data obtained from different sources were compiled to arrive at the optimum gross weight and payload capacity. 1.2 FIRST WEIGHT ESTIMATION Based on data compiled the payload weight for the initial weight estimation is taken as 200 gm. The graphs were plotted for 1 .empty weight vs gross weight (WE Vs WO) 2.powerplant weight vs gross weight. (WPP Vs WO) PLOT 1.2.1

We vs Wo
2500 2000 1500

y = 0.6828x - 117.38 R = 0.9712

WE(gm)

WO(gm)

PLOT 1.2.2

Wpp vs Wo

Wo(gm)

A first order curve curve fits the above data and slopes are obtained from the plots which is required for the weight estimation. WE/WO=0.6828 WPP/WO=0.2421 The gross weight can be estimated using the following relation WO=WE+WPP+WPL WO=(WE/WO)WO+(WPP/WO)WO+WPL
( ) ( )

(1.1) ..(1.2)

WPL=200 gm W O= { WO=2347.417 gm Hence the First weight estimate gives the gross weight as 2347.417 gm and payload weight as 200 gm. These values are bound to change in the later course of weight estimation.
