Problem 1 [30 Points] Indicate the signals asscociated with the dierent blocks in the following control systems and specify their units.

Problem 2 [30 Points] Find the transfer function of the block diagrams in the gures below via block diagram reduction.The same exercise has been done in Lab 1 but by using matlab commands. You are now required to simplify the system by using block diagram algebra.

Problem 3 [10 Points] Write the dierential equations of the linear translational systems shown in gures below. Also nd the transfer functions Y1 (s)/F (s) and Y2 (s)/F (s).

Problem 4 [10 Points] A vehicle towing a trailer through a spring-damper coupling hitch is shown in the Fig 4P-6 below.The following parameters and variables are dened: M is the mass of the trailer, Kh the spring constant of the hitch, Bh the viscous damping coecient of the hitch, Bt the viscous-friction coecient of the trailer, y1 (t) the displacement of the towing vehicle, y2 (t) the displacement of the trailer, and f(t) the force of the towing vehicle. Write the dierential equation of the system.

Problem 5 [20 Points] The gure below shows the simplied diagram of the printwheel control system of word processor. The printwheel is controlled by a dc motor through belts and pulleys. Assume that the belts are rigid. Make appropriate assumptions to simlify the given situation. The following parameters and variables are dened: Tm (t) : motor torque m (t) : motor displacement y(t) : linear displacement of the printwheel Jm : motor inertia Bm : motor friction coecient r : pulley radius M : mass of the printwheel (a) Write the dierential equation of the system (b) Find the transfer function Y (s)/Tm (s).
