Misfortune

(Alteration) Level: 2nd Area of Effect: 1 creature Casting Time: 2 Components: V, S Duration: 1 week/level Range: 10 yards Saving Throw: Special When a wizard successfully casts a misfortune spell upon another individual or creature, the subject's proficiency checks suffer a 1-point penalty for the spell's duration. Multiple misfortune spells can be cast upon a subject, with cumulative results. The subject of a misfortune enchantment is allowed a saving throw versus spell with a -1 penalty to the die roll for every three full levels of the caster. Thus, if a 10th-level wizard cast misfortune, the subject suffers a -3 penalty to his saving throw. The misfortune spell(s) can be negated by a single remove curse or similar spell. An elderly Rjurik wizard is said to have created this spell to bring ill luck to his enemies. He intended his foes to suffer misfortune when hunting, fishing, or trapping - activities essential to the livelihood of the Rjurik people. The spell has since been used to bring ill-luck to people of all races.
