Chapter six(6) Aircraft landing system

Landing gear serves three primary purposes:to provide a support for the plane when at rest on the ground, to provide a stable chassis for taxiing or rolling during takeoff and landing, and to provide a shock absorbing system during landing.

Types of landing gear:Fixed landing gear Retractable landing gear

Arrangement of landing gear:Conventional Tricycle Bicycle

The landing gear Consist Of: Main and Auxiliary Units. The main landing gear provides the principal support for the aircraft on the ground The auxiliary (nose) gear provides supplemental support and steering capability.

MAIN LANDING GEAR Alignment: Landing gear torque links that keep the landing gear pointed straight ahead Support:A major consideration is securing the main gear to the aircraft structure This is typically accomplished through the use of a trunnion and bracket arrangement

Nose Landing gear

Nose wheel centering the nose wheel is the only landing gear that has the ability to rotate left or right (for steering). This might cause problems during retraction if the gear is not centered The cam system automatically centers the gear during retraction as it moves in to the wheel well.
