Formative Assessment
When?
Before every lesson
What?
Warm-Up Activity: These are different everyday depending on what is needed to be assessed. Often it is a practice problem that involves what was taught the day before or a concept that will be built off of during that particular lesson Every day there are a multiple types of assessment that I use 1. Show of hands (1-5) 2. Individual White Boards 3. Individual questioning 4. Observation during the class period 5. Student Presentation 6. Exit Slips 7. Practice/Lesson Quizzes 8. Homework Quizzes 9. Practice Free Responses Homework / Notes
Why?
This is also a type of formative because it tells the teacher what the students remember or what they learned from previous classes
To indicate to the teacher how the students are progressing. I grouped these all together because I literally tried to use [1-6] every single class period. Items [7-9] are specified in the unit plan of when those take place.
Every day
Homework was checked every day along with notes when applicable. The purpose of this was to make sure students are participating and engaging in the material. This is more geared toward behavior assessment but still important either way.
Summative Assessment
When?
End of the Unit
What?
Multiple-Choice online Test
Why?
Students demonstrate their level of mastery of the concepts Students demonstrate their level of mastery of the concepts. This includes work shown, which I think is more valuable when assessing students.
Diversity:
The Holt Geometry Textbook has a lot of different options for when students need more assistance or when students are ahead. When students are done with their work and need more of a challenge, there are bonus assignments online that must be completed with a 90% or better to receive credit. If students are completely done with everything they are given free time to work on other school work. When students do not understand the concepts there is plenty of room for assistance that is available in the classroom. First, the book offers different descriptions of how to present ideas in different ways. There are Reteach activities that are available for the students to do that break down the concepts a little further.
