    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Senator Shaheen Introduces Bill Expanding Scholarships to Women in Pakistan Washington D.C.

    - April 2nd- With the Senate Foreign Relations Committee set to continue hearings tonight, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) has introduced the Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act, a bill that would expand both merit and need based scholarships to Pakistani girls. This bill encourages the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to continue to support Pakistani education initiatives, especially those for women. If enacted, all the additional scholarships will be awarded to Pakistani women. When asked about her hopes for the bill Senator Shaheen said, I am confident that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will be able to put their differences aside and come together to support education for women who need it the most.
