SOCIAL CHANGES BRAUGHT ABOUT BY CHANGING TECHNOLOGY MAYANK ROHITASVA GARG

The purpose of this article is to investigate the role of technology in the transformation of society. Technology has the power to change the values of human society. The human society has been changing since it came into existence. From the slave system of the ancient world to the notion of liberty, equality and fraternity, from the group life of the pre historic human being to individualism of the modern world, from male dominance to the radical feminism we perceive a gradual change in the outlook of the people. My particular focus in the present paper will be to trace the fields where the technology has made major changes. What has caused these changes? Is it because some or the other writer came out with a new concept in his or her latest book, or because of some movement for or against a particular system in the society? To my mind, writers give vent to the ideas which may be haunting the public mind at the same time. Writers, their works or intellectual debates, no doubt, give direction to the vague public feelings. They may strengthen the desire for change in the public mind, they may even have the power to change the political system of a country but to think that they can change the cultures or societies is a romantic notion. Since the aim of this study is to highlight the role of technology in the progression or the change of human society I have concentrated here on how it gradually occupied a major space in the human life, how it freed the modern human being from the shackles of mundane activities and gave him enough time to ponder over graver issues, and how it has brought about slight and great changes in their views. This, I have done with the help of published or telecast lectures of different scholars, and study of the critical works written by historians, sociologists, journalists and the scholars who have worked in this field.
