Guys will scoff at the definition. It comes from a deeply rooted hatred of cooties and Boys vs. Girls junior section competitions. Whats disheartening is that many girls will also laugh at it. Simply because they dont simply believe in their gender. Despite years of girls mature faster than boys and Shes the smartest in our class, girls have lower self-esteem than guys. The reason this happens is because were conditioned to feel this way. Miss Representation discusses why and how this happens. Not all girls are feminists and many girls are very anti-feminist; but if you ask, every girl in Bangladesh will have a story. Maybe not stories about how acid was thrown at them, or stories about rape, but stories about how a guy had made them so uncomfortable that they felt almost inhuman. The male gender isnt the enemy. Most of the guys we know are human guys that have overbearing mothers, sisters and girl best friends. The problem is that guys are conditioned too conditioned to expect more from girls in the limbs and torso department. And with the amount of photoshop used in media these days, those expectations are impossible to satisfy. This leads to a chain reaction that ultimately results in more mental problems and a less healthy population. Miss Representation is a documentary. It deals with depressing facts and significant issues. Its not particularly funny but it makes you think. Even though its studies are based in the US, the psychological pattern that it discusses is relevant everywhere. Most of us arent intellectuals; we dont read the news daily or debate about current events. Once in awhile, theres an issue that becomes imperative.
