Tooth abnormalities have become an issue in orthodontics and can be classified based on number, size, shape, and structure. Hypodontia is a term used to describe the phenomena of congenital tooth loss. This is divided into hypodontia (loss of one to six teeth), oligodontia (loss of more than six teeth) and anodontia (loss of all teeth). Early detection of any abnormalities in tooth formation and eruption are considered important in providing opportunities to take interceptive actions. Purpose. The aim of this study is to find the prevalence of hypodontia in the Orthodontic Clinic of Dental Faculty of Airlangga University in 2008-2010. Method. Patients status cards and radiographs are examined to find the prevalence of hypodontia, which is then recorded in percentage. Conclusion. The prevalence of hypdontia among patients in the year 2008-2010 are 3,85% and the ratio of male to female is 1:4. Key words : Hypodontia, oligodontia, congenital tooth loss, prevalence
