Grade 4 Overview Sunday 14/04/2013 Thursday 18/04/ 2013. Instructional Writing We will be working on instructional writing for this week. This can easily be practice at home either orally or with writing. Whenever you or your child are completing a simple task around the house ask them the numbered order in which you do things ie: Starting the car: 1) Sit down in the drivers seat 2) Put on the seat belt 3) Make sure everyone else in the car has put on their seat belt 4) Put the key in the ignition (or Push to Start) 5) Turn key to start the engine 6) Check your mirrors and blind spots 7) Away we go!
We will be reviewing all that we learned about fractions before the holiday. This includes addition and subtraction of simple fraction with denominators(bottom numbers) that are not the same. 7.6: Many Names for Fractions 7.7: Equivalent Fractions 7.8 Fractions and Decimals Continue identifying and discussing fractions that you see in your everyday life in order to better understand fractions and how they relate to our world. Central idea: Authority and rules have an impact on people and their

The structure and function of groups and institutions (form) The purpose of authority figures (function) The interconnectedness of systems within a society (connection) We will be starting our new unit on AUTHORITY and how our society using authority and power structures to work as an effective community. At home you can discuss with your child the power structure of certain institiutions ie: Who is in charge in a police station? Who is second in charge? Who makes the rules for the police to follow? Helping your child understand that there are different levels of power and how they work together will benefit them in their class studies.
