(2013) Charlotte Danielson Enhancing Professional Practice Framework 2008 Of all the professional development books I have been

exposed to to date, this book has by far been the most important. Learning about the EPP Framework has allowed me to understand what exactly the expectations are for me as a teacher and what I can do to achieve distinguished in each of the categories. The four domains are: Planning and Preparation, The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibility. Gaining an understanding of each domain and the different components of them will help me enhance my teaching and be aware of what makes a distinguished teacher. (2013) Ann Raimes Techniques in Teaching Writing 1983 Raimes book Techniques in Teaching Writing provides many suggestions to use in the classroom for practicing writing. The book offers several activities for teaching ESL students that can be modified in order to be used for all students. Raimes also includes activities that PLCs can work through together in order to improve their perspective when teaching students. As a teacher I would use several of the activities suggested by Raimes, many of which can be incorporated in Balanced Literacy. This book covered two of the four domains, Preparation and Instruction. (2012) John Ratey SPARK 2008 Ratey highlights the importance of physical activity for not only students but also teachers. Exercise decreases the chances of becoming depressed, reduces stress and anxiety, and results in an all around healthier lifestyle. In my career I will consider the importance of exercise and be sure to exercise myself while also encourage my students to exercise. Students need to be taught the importance of exercise in their lives; having someone model a healthy lifestyle will create a stronger emphasis of its importance. This book touches on the Professional responsibility domain. (2012) Ed. Heidi Hayes Jacobs Curriculum 21 2010 This book highlights the importance of recognizing that we are currently a part of the twenty first century, however many schools and the education system in general still practices as though it is the nineteenth century. One of the big questions the book left me considering was why we have grades in the school system and why they are determined simply by age; a system that was implemented long ago. The book really opened my mind to the importance of incorporating technology in the classroom and staying relevant with curriculum. I found that this book covered all four domains and covered hit all aspects of our duties as teachers to stay current and plan for the future rather than live in the past.
