SESSIONAL QUESTION PAPER

FACULTY: Ms. Deepti Joshi Mr.Harish Kumar, Ms Tinna Yadav

NOTE: Q.1 is compulsory. Attempt any two questions from Q. 2, 3 & 4. Q.1. a) Explain the different types of D.C machines. (5x4=20) b) Explain Lenzs Law. c) Explain Hysteresis loop. d) Define: Magnetic field intensity, Magnetic Field Density. Q.2. a) Differentiate the Magnetic and Electrical Circuits. (10) b) A laminated soft iron ring of relative permeability 1000 has a mean circumference of 800mm and a cross sectional area 500mm2. A radial air gap of 1mm width is cut in the ring which is wound with 1000 turns. Calculate the current required to produce an air-gap flux of 0.5mWb if leakage factor is 1.2 and stacking factor 0.9. Neglect fringing. (10) Q.3. a) Explain dynamically and statically induced emf. (10) b) The field winding of DC electromagnet is wound with 950 turns and has resistance of 50 when the exciting voltage is 240V. The magnetic flux linking the coil is 0.005Wb. Calculate the self inductance of the coil and energy stored in magnetic field. (10) Q.4 a) Explain Faradays Law of Electromagnetic Induction. (10) b) 18A 4-pole lap wound shunt generator having 70 slots with 12 conductors per slot generates an emf of 420V at no load, when running at 980 rpm. How will you obtain a generated open circuit voltage of 240V? (10)
