Racism Racism is one of the many problems in this world today.

Racism is defined as treating people differently simply because of their race or culture. Usually, this is when someone thinks that they are better than or superior to others of a certain race. Racism takes different forms such as written or verbal insults, and violence. Racism affects everybody, although some more than others. It can make people feel, among other things, unwanted, ashamed, and depressed. It affects peoples selfconfidence, and can cause them to self-harm or even commit suicide. Here are some statistics relating to racism. Of 7,722 hate-crime incidents reported to the FBI in 2006, 2,640 were anti-black. According to some recent surveys, 1 in 6 Canadian adults have been subjected to racism, while 1 in 10 didn't want people from a different race as next-door neighbors. In a poll conducted for CNN, almost half of black respondents (49 percent) said racism is a "very serious" problem, while only 18 percent of whites shared that view. Black youths arrested for drug possession are 48 times more likely to wind up in prison than white youths arrested for the same crime under the same circumstances. Many of those who prejudice against different races are often seen as close minded and ignorant because they cannot accept the world as it is and choose to act only on their own beliefs. In my opinion, there is only one race, and that is the human race. After all, we are all humans. If only close-minded people came with closed mouths.
