Your Job Description: As an intern or practicum student, you will be asked to do tasks in which you may be familiar with, or not be so familiar with. Some maybe along the lines of what your major and minor classes have taught you, and some may be completely new. Do not worry, everyone here is willing to help and answer any questions you may have during the duration of your stay here. While at WPFC, I made the logo for Empower Wicomico (well talk about that later), Made the Empower Wicomico Website, did a little grant research, came up with ideas, attended meetings, made flyers, helped with the set up and execution for 2013 Salisbury Festival, and started the ground work for our hopeful idea of producing a TV series on PAC 14 (Public Access Channel in Salisbury MD), that will showcase Empower Wicomico and its programs. There are so many opportunities for you to work within and outside of your comfort zone, allowing yourself to broaden your knowledge and really get a feel for how your entry level job will be like after college.

To describe what my duties were while I was at WPFC, I was given a document on the first day that included examples of things that I would be working on. I did most of them during my time at WPFC. Im sure Diana and Katie will have a nicely outlined informational page for you to look at to know what your duties will be as an intern/practicum student. My major is public relations, and minor is marketing. During my time at WPFC, I mostly worked on the Empower Wicomico Implementation, and Event Coordination for Salisbury Festival. Your jobs may vary, but all of it will prepare you for the future.

Expectations: Diana and Katie and very kind hearted and understanding, but they do expect a few key things from you that I suggest you follow. 1.) Be on time Make sure, when you schedule your times of when you are going to be on site, that you are there and ready to work. 2.) Communicate If you are going to be late, sick, if you have a last minute homework assignment you need to get done, or any other emergency, on the days/times you are scheduled to be on site, contact Diana or Katie. There are many ways to do this. Email, Text, and calling them (personally or the office). 3.) Along with your practicum or internships directors request of keeping track of hours, Diana will give you time sheets of her own for you to keep track of your hours. She will have access to the sheets at all time because they are located on the Share Drive, on the WPFC computers. 4.) Of course, always be respectful of people from all walks of life. What is empower Wicomico? The Wicomico Out of School Time Network Initiative is a collaborative effort to create a network of sustainable, affordable after school and out-ofschool programs within the City of Salisbury and outlying areas of Wicomico County. The model is designed to connect and share resources within each of the three designated clusters. Each Cluster will have program, sites and community organizations, as well as program providers and volunteers to meet our youth's need for constructive and educational programming outside of the normal school day. By sharing resources, all programs will be able to provide enhanced activities such as dance, art, karate, and field trips. All programs are funded in part or whole by Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children with funding from the Maryland Governor's Office for Children.
