EXPERTS FIRE BACK: KEEP OPEN MIND
On Sunday afternoon, three fires broke out in the Black Forest in Germany. Monday, May 13, a panel of experts met for a press conference at the Youth Hostel in Heidelberg, Germany. The panel of experts was made up of a disaster management, a computational specialist, and engineers in the fields of biotech, green tech, environmental, and robotics. Disaster managements take home advice was to keep an open mind about the fire and no evacuations are necessary at this time. However, biotech and environmental engineers recognized that the fires can have an adverse effect on humans and the environment. They are also monitoring the atmosphere and say there is no adverse effect as yet from the fires. Computer simulation teams are devising other ways to improve fire hose nozzles for better water delivery for extinguishing fires. Robotic engineers were optimistic about how robotics will be able to replace firefighters on dangerous front lines. The mixed responses from experts may leave the public concerned whether or not the experts have fully identified the problem facing them in Heidelberg. In addition, will the experts ever identify criteria and constrains with these fires? Will they gather again to present solutions and discuss any lasting effects to our environment? More detail to come.
