In Unit 9 students will learn about Monday 5/20: Spelling Test Coordinates, Area, Volume, and Capacity. In Friday 5/17: Poetry Vocabulary Quiz this unit students will practice plotting points on coordinate grids and will be introduced to transformations of figures in a plane. We will review and extend knowledge of area, volume, and capacity as well. May 20-22: MAP Testing 12:12-1:15 Students should be viewing their May 22: Poetry Slam *NEW DATE Vocabulary Quilt for definitions of words May 30: No School they do not know. Students will also be learning games to reinforce their skills.

Over the past few weeks Ms. Mariana has been working with our class on Internet Safety. Students have created presentations about Internet Safety in Google docs to share with their peers.

Mystery Skype Call Our Mystery Skype was a success! Students worked together and were able to narrow down the other classs location to Venezuela. Our next Mystery Skype will be on May 29th. Some things we need to improve are making sure we focus on our roles, communicate clearly (and quietly!), and asking more guiding questions.

Reading and Writing: Poetry


Students Poet research is due on Tuesday. They need to turn in their research, draft, and final copy via Google Docs. We are continuing with our poetry unit. The Poetry Slam will be next Wednesday, May 22 at 2:15 PM. If you would like to volunteer to bring a treat or drinks to share please email me at megan.kuemmerlin@eac.com.br. This week students will be working their way through centers. Students will be making a poetry vocabulary booklet for fourth graders, writing alliteration poems with superlative adjectives, analyzing a poem of their choice, and creating shape poems with strong word choice.

Science/Social Studies : Human Body


Our Unit this week is on the human body. We will be looking at how the human body take in oxygen, and how does the human body use oxygen, and finally how does your body get rid of cell wastes?

MAP Testing
Next week students will take the MAP tests in Reading, Language, and Math. These tests are a great way to see how much each student has improved throughout the year. It will also provide skills students should work on independently over the summer in order to be better prepared for next school year.

Students will be taking the MAP Tests to track their growth this year. Check the dates below for your our class times. Monday, May 20 Reading Tuesday, May 21 Math Wednesday, May 22 Language If you would like to volunteer to provide snacks/drinks for the Poetry Slam on May 22nd please send me an email. Parents are welcome to come hear students read their poems, but for those that cant make it I will be filming and put together a little video.
