Evidence to support the rating: Supervisor: Observation 1 Strengths: Kelly is off to a great start in her new placement. She is busy getting to know her students by having them fill out an information sheet about themselves and she is learning their names and faces quickly. This was her first full day of instruction and she has set the tone of her classroom to be very productive and a learning environment that is conducive to help all learners. She is starting to provide more positive feedback to her students. Goals: Kelly needs to find out information on her students to meet their learning needs. If she has any special needs students in class she should find this information quickly and work on providing learning experiences to meet their needs. Use positive feedback to build the habits you are incorporating into your classroom. Try to find phrases and other words to provide praise other than perfect. Supervisor: Observation 2 Strengths: Kelly is really getting to know her students and their needs. She has a good rapport with her students and sets the tone for the class quickly. The students respond quickly to her cues and settle in. The learning environment that Kelly has created is one that is productive and caring. She is making good improvements in using positive feedback. Kelly did an excellent job in checking for understanding several times during the lesson by using a show of hands, giving Kelly a number between one and three on the level of understanding on their homework, and by having the students go up to the board to show their work on the guided practice. Goals: Kelly needs to continue to find out information about her special needs students and implement this into her lesson plans. Cooperating Teacher Midterm Strengths: Kelly is doing a good job of meeting each learners needs, despite the large sizes of her classes. She mixes up her lecture time with guided practice at the board and at their desks with occasional partner work. The atmosphere is such that students are comfortable coming to the board knowing that they will be helped and get their questions answered without feeling ashamed. She is also finding little ways to make connections with her students which help in easing their math anxieties and encourages them to seek help when they need it. Lastly, she has been pro-active when it comes to collaborating with her co-teacher in first hour, and her fellow Algebra I teachers. Goals: Kelly will continue to get to know the students and their learning needs through interactions with their counselors and fellow teachers. Supervisor: Observation 3 Strengths: Kelly has a really good read on her 6th hr. class. They have been a challenge to manage but Kelly has developed some excellent behavior management skills such as wait time, holding students accountable, and questioning techniques. She genuinely wants her students to do well and works tirelessly to accommodate their needs by providing tutoring time before school or during 5th hr. supervision. Goals: To create a habit, Kelly needs to use positive re-enforcement to promote and recognize the behavior she wants the students to continue to demonstrate. I would like to have Jason keep a tally during each class period for a day or two so Kelly knows if she is improving.
