ABSTRACT Elastic modulus is an important mechanical properties of concrete while designing any structural member. For conventional concrete this modulus of elasticity is well established and codes and standards are specifying about the modulus of elasticity. Coconut shell concrete is one of the recent development under the special concrete of lightweight concrete. This study focuses on the determination of different modulus of elasticity of coconut shell concrete, since no experimental data are available in this regard. Different modulus of elasticity are found from the

experimental tests for coconut shell concrete for concrete grades M15, M20 and M25 from the corresponding stress-strain curves. All these values are also compared with the conventional concrete of the respective concrete grades. The modulus of elasticity used in practice is secant modulus. Secant tangent modulus results are conservative, when compared with experimental and theoretical value for conventional concrete, since the ratios of experimental results to the theoretical values are lies between 1.21 to 1.99 which is greater than 1.00. Secant modulus value for M25 grade conventional concrete is 52000 N/mm2 and for M25 grade coconut shell concrete is 27500 N/mm2, conventional concrete value is 47.1 % of variation than coconut shell concrete. Coefficient is calculated to predict the modulus of elasticity of coconut shell concrete, coefficient lies in the range between 5100 to 5700. Further study is required to confirm these results of predicted coefficient.
