Global Education for a New Age

Prof. Reima Sado Al-Jarf
College of Languages and Translation, King Saud University
Abstract
The world has become a small village due to latest developments in information
technology. As a result, ecological, economic, political, cultural, social and
technological systems in the world have become interrelated and inter-dependent.
Students are no longer citizens of their own country, they have become global citizens.
They live in a rapidly changing world that requires global skills and knowledge. In the
light of current economic, political, social, technological changes in the world, this
study recommends that a global education course be offered to students in junior and
senior high school grade levels. Such a course will help students understand the world
as a group of interrelated and inter-dependent human, political, economic,
technological, ecological, social, and ecological systems, will introduce them to world
cultures and customs, will help them understand the similarities and differences between
them, will help them analyze and study world organizations, promote human values and
develop an awareness of current world issues that cross borders, and will help them
recognize the ties between their home country and other countries. The study proposes a
model for a global education course and briefly delineates the course objectives, course
content, course design, teaching strategies, techniques, activities, resources and teacher
training.
