Athens and Sparta were the two most famous and powerful city states in Ancient Greece.

However, they were both very different. Athens government ruled as a democracy. They were the first to ever do this. A city of Athens is built below the acropolis which stands on a hill high above all of Athens. Athens and Sparta had very different ways of living their lives. A government of Athens wanted to control as much land as a possible and this led to much war between Greek lands. Sparta, although more powerful kept for themselves Athens was a very creative city state, they believed in very good education for the boys They went to school between the ages of 7 to 15 they learned to read and write and sums music poetry , sports and gymnastic. They didnt have copies they had stylus wax Girls were not seen as very important in Athens girl Girls could be taught how to read and write at home if they had rich parents Otherwise they learned how to cook and clean and spin, weaves from their mothers Girls were not allowed to take part with anything that has to do with war, business or educations Sparta was very focused on obedience and war and the people did not have any luxuries Boys do not have to work or be educated when they can be trained to be young warriors from a very young age. Boys had to join Spartan armys Boys were taken from their homes at age 7 so that they can train, they were given a tonic and no sandals. They were kept hungry so that they can learn to steal food; if they were caught they were beaten. Girls in Sparta were to grow up and to become the mothers of warriors Although they were not allowed to fight. Girls took part in all the training because fit ladies became fit babies who would fight.
