Wrestling Basics

• The object: Pin you man.


• Three periods to do so.
• If you can’t pin him,
outscore him.
Wrestling Basics

• 10 weight classes in college; 14 in high school


• Opens, Tournaments, Duals, Triangular
• Flip, draw, or mutually agree on starting weight
class.

• Each wrestler will wear a red or green band around


their ankle to determine scoring.
Individual Scoring

• Take down- 2 points


• Reversal- 2 points
• Escape- 1 point
• Near Fall Points
• Penalty Points
• Riding Time
(College only)
Team Scoring

• Fall- 6 points

• Tech Fall (by 15)- 5 points

• Major Decision (by 8-14)-

• Win(by 7 points or less)- 3

Spectating Tips
• Be aware of surroundings.
• Know the situation on the mat.
• Heavyweight the best time for snacks and
bathroom break.

• Do not stand up in front of someone video taping


• Do not hesitate to yell.
• If all else fails, yell what everyone else is.
The Challenge

•Mentally and Physically challenging.


•Practices extremely tough.
•Requires physical strength, stamina, body
control and knowledge.
