. ave students work in pairs. Give each pair a reproducible, a
bag of cereal, and a set of word cards. Have pairs place the
cards facedown in a pile. Invite each partiier to choose a
cereal color and then place his or her twelve pieces of cereal
on the dark squares in the first three rows on his or her side
of the game board. Explain that students are going to play
Fruity Checkers a game similar to checkers. Have player A draw a word card
reproducible and read it to player B. If player B correctly spells the word,
(page 46) he or she moves one “game piece” ina diagonal direction
w fruit ring cereal cone space. If player B gives an incorrect response, player A

“jumps over’ and captures an opponent's game piece, he
