QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN WRITING A SCREENPLAY (OR ANY OTHER FICTION): What event starts my story to set the

crisis in action? Does that event drive the protagonist into action? How will my protagonist react to that event? Will he/she deny the action and react against it? Will he/she work towards it? What does my protagonist want? What drives my protagonist on? What goal must my protagonist accomplish? What has he/she failed to accomplish during the story? What does he/she meet on the way? What are the sources of antagonism? Does the conflict come from a level of reality? (Is it plausible?) Is the opposition equal to, if not greater than, the protagonist? Do the forces really test him/her? Do the forces become so powerful and cumulative in their power that they severely test the deepest qualities in your character? Do we become deeply involved? Have we grown to identify with and/or like the protagonist?
