`What is it like to work for Atkins in the Middle East?
Working for Atkins in the Middle East is a multi-cultural, demanding and
challenging career path; Atkins projects in the Middle East are not simple, and
the deadlines are not relaxed, to deliver some of the most complicated
multidisciplinary projects in the shortest periods of time. You would have to
learn, adapt and work on a fast pace, and communicate closely with the
different teams. In order to achieve that, you will find on the way, a lot of
support and mentoring.

Tell us about the Graduate Development Programmed.

The graduate development programme is designed to accelerate your career
towards becoming a chartered engineer or professional. It combines on the job
training with soft skills trainings to direct your career towards achieving the
required skills. Your manager and mentor will help you identify and participate
in projects and project tasks that are suitable to achieve those skills at each
stage.
Tell us about a typical day at Atkins.
My typical day at Atkins starts with going over my project tasks, trying to
produce a quality design and the best solution for our clients before the
deadlines approach, meeting with team leaders and design and project
managers to make sure we are on the right track, meeting up with my graduate
colleagues to go out for lunch in one the nearby restaurants and attending
training sessions on subjects such as REVIT MEP 2012.
What is the most unusual thing you have done since joining?
The most unusual thing I have done as part of my job with Atkins so far, is
travelling to the Atkins office in Bangalore in India, an area where I never
thought I would work in, but learned that it can be capable of producing high
quality designs and uses effective work methods. Socially, the most unusual
thing I have done so far with Atkins is running a 72 km marathon through a
Wadi in Oman with 4 of my graduate colleagues, wearing fancy dress
costumes
What tips would you give to graduates relocating to the Middle East?
Have an open mind, and enjoy the diversity. You will be facing problems
different than the ones you are used to, but this only means that you will
become more creative in finding solutions.

Tell us about the graduate community across the Middle East.

The graduate community across the Middle East is highly active and
enthusiastic in planning, organising and participating in social, sporting and
learning activities. Recently I got engaged in a Corporate Responsibility role,
as the Graduate Corporate Responsibility Officer, and I have been organising
graduate and company events, such as football tournaments, that will raise
funds for charities and give back to the community.

1- Psychometric Tests:
The second stage of our selection process is online numerical & verbal
reasoning psychometric testing. All our graduates are joining into technical
roles therefore they need to have a certain level of numerical ability. English is
also the first language used in our business and generally the business language
across the GCC, therefore our graduates need to be able to understand and
converse effectively in English - the tests can only be taken in English.
You will be given 7 days to complete the psychometric tests after which your
application will be withdrawn.
Time Commitment
It will take you circa 45 minutes to read the instructions, go through the
practice questions to get a feel for the tests, and finally complete the actual
tests.
Objectives

Ensure all applicants progressing to the next stage possess the

required levels of numerical & verbal ability
Fair & consistent assessment for all applicants
Help us to sift-in the top candidates - we have circa 3,000
applications per year to sift through

Test Tips
Put aside enough time to complete the tests
Ensure you will not be interrupted or disturbed by your surroundings

Decisions
We aim to confirm whether you have reached the benchmark for the
psychometric tests within 5 working days.

2- Screening Interview
The third stage of the selection process is the telephone screening interview,
which is designed for two purposes. Firstly, to assess your motivations for
wanting to work for Atkins (and move to the Middle East for those not living
locally), discuss any questions raised from your application form, identify the
business areas & office locations you would like to be considered for, and to
assess some of the non technical skills we are looking for within our graduates.
Secondly, and just as important, to give you an opportunity to ask any
questions you may have about Atkins, the roles, living in the Middle East, or
the graduate development programme etc.
We will aim to get your interview booked in at the earliest opportunity but this
will also depend on your availability.
Time Commitment
The interview tends to last circa 25 minutes on average, however this will
depend on the quality of your answers and how concise your answers are.

not pass the telephone interview you will be informed within 5 working days

for the particular business & location your are interviewing for, your education

developed at university that is transferable to the role you are interviewing for.
It will also of course be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have
