Atm traffic parameters

ATM traffic parameters

Specifies various aspects and characteristics of traffic Measure two things: the amount of data carried and the rate at which it is carried

Elements of Traffic Parameters

Average Data Rate: it is the average data rate for the duration of data transfer. Maximum allowable rate: maximum data rate that a user allows at a instant point of time. Burst Duration: time duration in which a user is allowed to send data at maximum allowable rate.

ATM traffic descriptors

Peak cell rate:
Maximum rate at which user is allowed to inject data into network. An upper bound on the rate that traffic can be submit on a connection Measured in cells/second An upper bound on the average cell rate of a burst traffic of an ATM connection Measured in cells/second Calculated over the duration of the connection

Sustainable Cell rate:

Maximum Burst size: The maximum number of cells
that can be sent at the peak cell rate-amount of data.

Burst tolerance: measure of interval between

consecutive bursts during which cells are sent at PCR.

Minimum Cell rate: minimum cell rate that a network

must provide to a connection.

Maximum Frame size: maximum size of AAL PDU for

the Guaranteed frame rate.

BT is calculated-{(MBS-1)/SCR-(MBS1)/PCR}={(MBS-1)/((1/SCR-(1/PCR))}
