Responsible for leading and directing all operations and a busy road fleet safely and effectively. Maintaining
customer contact and liaising with suppliers. With safety and efficiency at the centre of Freightliner’s thinking,
the long term strategy is in line with Government policy to grow rail freight by 80% over the next ten years.
Operating the *Intermodal business using the UK’s rail and road networks. As Britain’s biggest
*Intermodal freight operator, Freightliner transports over one million standard containers a year and
operates over100 trains and 180 vehicles daily.
Improved operational efficiencies and reducing cost of off site storage by establishing terminal storage facilities
for laden ISO containers.
Increased container throughput in-line with projections.
Met all business specifications and operational standards within budgeted financial forecasts.

Health and Safety


Recruited and co-ordinated the training of a multi skilled team of operators for terminal lifting equipment.
Ensured all staff operate within safety legislation, company safety policy, and that all aspects of HASAW
strictly adhered too.
Established and maintained an efficient competency assessment programme.
Developed a safety plan that sets out and commits the company to eliminating risk of death or injury in our
operations by removing unsafe acts and conditions. The accident statistics for last year show a marked
improvement.

* Intermodal freight offers an environmentally friendly, energy efficient means of forwarding


containerised goods throughout Great Britain. It exploits the energy efficiency of trunk rail haulage
with the flexibility of door-to-door service. A Freightliner train can carry up to 75 containers, thereby
substantially reducing the number of lorries, and their environmental threat, from the road.

OPERATIONS MANAGER Jan 01 – Mar 01


Ensured the safe operation of all intermodal activity within a busy freight terminal and the safety of all
visitors and contractors.
Ensured rules and standards are maintained at the highest level, carried out safety audits.
Ensured fire manual procedures are carried out and arrange fire training.
Maintain Terminal Safety library, ensuring all relevant publications are current.
Introduced quality procedures and gained accreditation to EN ISO 9002.

TERMINAL CONTROLLER TO MANAGER Feb 98 – 01


Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Terminal over a 24 hour cycle.
Gained maximum use out of available Rail wagons.
Managed handling, storage activities, controlling daily train plan to customer requirements and day
to day control of terminal resources within budget.
Carried out risk assessments, accident and Incident investigations and wrote reports.

Responsible for all terminal operations including train working, Health & Safety.
Implemented Freightliner’s Competency assessment programme in line with Railtrack's requirements.
