Project Details - Maths


Std 10 2013-14

Students are required to submit THREE project reports (maximum 15 pages each) on the following topics. All the three projects should be compiled as one booklet, hand written and most importantly spiral binded. PROJECT 1 Theme: Shares and Dividend Your project report must cover the following aspects 1. Introduction. 2. Meaning of Shares and Dividend. 3. Assuming that you have 3 lakh rupees to invest in shares, purchase shares of five different types of companies mainly from Automobiles, Information &technology, Pharmaceutical, Textiles Services Sectors and Petro-chemicals (see that the shares purchased should be in whole numbers). Keep the track of their price for next 15days, and then sell them on the 15th day. Find the profit or loss percent for the individual companies as well as overall profit or loss percent. 4. Compare graphically the prices of the shares. 5. Conclusion PROJECT 2 Theme: Personal Income Tax for the F.Y. 2013-14 Income tax for employees / individuals only (men, women and senior citizens) is to be considered. Your project report must cover the following aspects. 1. Why is income tax imposed? 2. Who imposes this tax? 3. Latest income tax slabs (for the year 2013-14) 4. Give one worked out example for calculation of income tax that will be paid (F.Y. 20132014) for each of the following three cases. You may include one or more admissible deductions under Section-80C. For this, use self-created practical figures. a. A man whose gross annual income is ` 7 lacs. b. A woman whose gross annual income is ` 6 lacs c. A 63-year old citizen whose gross annual income is ` 12 lacs 5. Find out the difference in the income tax to be paid in each case if last years rates and conditions are still applicable. 6. Conclusion

PROJECT 3 Theme: Mean, Median, Mode Your project must cover the following aspects; 1. Brief description of Statistics. 2. Data collection for ICSE STD10 Mathematics board exam marks for year 2011 and 2012(mentioning index number of at least 50 students). Data compiled should not be selfcreated but genuine and taken from reliable resources. 3. Construction of frequency distribution table using appropriate Class-intervals. 4. Evaluation of the mean marks using direct method, short cut method and step deviation method. 5. An estimate of the median marks using less than type ogive. 6. An estimate the mode for the given marks using two different histograms. 7. Conclusion. Remember Your focus must be on the QUALITY of contents, not on its length and/or beautification of the report.
